Press Release 2014

April 23

Cabin fever was rampant this winter, causing the most vigorous of readers to burn through their book reserves and the significantly restless to begin plotting their summer escapes. This spring, make sure your shelves are fully stocked with Partners books!

If you find yourself staring out the window, bring a copy of Backyard Birds with you. Our feathered friends will soon be building nests which you can identify with Birds' Nests of the World. If these titles don't break the monotony of rainy days, then maybe Storyteller: The Art work of Roy Henry Vickers will enchant you with rugged and colorful images. Breathe the Wind, Drink the Rain, will provide insights of self-awareness and nature, while Heart and Soil will remind you how good it is to get your hands dirty with soft garden dirt. Be sure to reference the Field Guide to Edible Fruits and Berries of the Pacific Northwest for your foraging escapades.

While we’re daydreaming of the summer days to come, get the kids ready for some outdoor activity with titles like My Favorite Run and the Major League Baseball Activity Book. Spoonful of Sweetness and Are you Confident Today will make sure they’re up for the task, while the Magic Comb will remind them to look their best – inside and out. With all these great books, they’ll be ready to solve mysteries with Tramp, the mystery solving pooch. Of course, it’s never too soon to start developing those critical thinking skills, as kids start their Countdown to College.

Many of the best stories are born from old legends, such as Harbour Publishing’s new Juvie title, Cloudwalker. Other stories revel in tragedy, like is found in Somewhere In-Between. Perhaps your readers would prefer the Outsmarting of Criminals, or the dark mysteries of Death’s Way. Alterna Comics' new graphic novel FUBAR entertains, but only biographies like My Mantelpiece open windows into a person's soul. Boreal Feast is a fine cookbook to introduce British Columbian cuisine into the kitchen. And for the entrepreneur, grab a copy of the Billion Dollar Paperclip. A bit of “Self-Help” is always a good thing, so Raise Your Hand If You Have Issues!— a must. Then begin Project Personal Freedom for guidance to a liberated life. Check out Hutterites, a book exploring the Hutterite faith and nine people’s journey to religious freedom. Finally, head back to Base Camp, in which Dianne Whelan reveals the adventures of Mt Everest climbers.
